The Economist: Ukraine Has Superdrones Capable Of Flying To Siberia

The best of the new models has a range of 3,000 kilometres.

Ukraine has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in creating its own long-range drones. Now six companies are already producing attack drones capable of hitting distant targets. Ukraine is using them to hit Russian territory, ignoring US demands to stop attacking Russia.

The Economist. writes about it.

The publication notes that the best of the new models of Ukrainian drones has a range of 3,000 kilometres and can reach Siberia.

Such superdrones appeared in Ukraine out of necessity, because the West was not willing to provide long-range weapons.

"This programme has undermined much of Russia's oil and military infrastructure. But the White House is not happy and is pushing the Ukrainians to stop the strikes," the British weekly said in the article.

However, Ukraine ignores the US displeasure and continues to strike Russia actively, doing so defiantly. A Ukrainian intelligence officer responsible for part of the programme of attacks on Russian Federation told the publication in a commentary that he had not received instructions to stop the strikes - on the contrary, they will be increased and intensified.

However, he said, there was a shift from targeting Russia's oil infrastructure last week. But that is temporary.

"Our targets are changing every day. We are keeping the Russians at bay," he noted.

One of the manufacturers of long-range strike UAVs told the publication that US representatives tried to influence directly the companies that produce drones. However, not all US representatives agree with the White House policy. According to him, very often in private conversations, Americans advised to ignore the demands of the Biden administration and hit Russia hard.

The drone manufacturer predicted that Ukraine's UAV development programme will expand in the coming months.

"Russia is scorching Ukrainian soil. It is time to do the same to Russia," he noted.
